Last month the Dover Public Library hosted an Instructables' Build Night. Our patrons were able to come in and build their own DODOcase, a Smartphone Virtual Reality Viewer. Our task was to think of modifications to make the viewer even better! Certain reality games require a controller.

After building the viewer, some of our patrons were disappointed that the iPhone 5 and iPhone 5S didn't seem to fit. We decided to see if we could make a modification. We also decided we wanted to make it easier for people to find the correct app. So we created a QR code.

You Will Need:

  • QR Code
  • Mod Podge
  • Paint Brush or Sponge Applicator
  • iPhone 5/5S holder (We used our 3D printer to create one using a file found on Thingiverse.com).

Add QR Code

Go to a QR Code generator site. Type in the URL for the DODOcase VR Portal app found in the Google Play store. Print out the generated code. Apply a small amount of mod podge to the back of the code. Place the code on the side of the virtual viewer. Apply a small amount of mod podge to the top of the code to seal it.

Add Holder

To add the holder, open the viewer. Place the holder on the piece with the NFC Tag. Our 3D printer had trouble printing one side of the object, it's slightly thinner on the left. Luckily there was enough to successfully hold an iPhone. Place the iPhone in the plastic holder and close the viewer.
