Dashboard Delight (IE; Make Beef Jerky in Your Car)
I came up with this years back when I found that I could cook my burrito in the hot-ass blazing sun. I love beef jerky, so I thought, "WHY NOT?!" Every morning I would set some meat out to dry, and by the end of work I would have half a pound of jerky waiting for me as a snack.
Materials:
A large stainless steel bowl
Cooling racks from Dollar Tree
A knife capable of cutting fine cuts of meat
Meat
Water
Garlic - mild flavoring
Salt - helps in preservation
Honey - flavor and as an anerobic preservative
A sealed car
Step 1: Handling Your Meat.
After getting your supplies, take the water, garlic, salt, honey and mix them together in your bowl. After thoroughly mixing, dip your chosen meats into the brine and let set for one hour in the dash to let it soak in properly. Make sure that each piece gets a decent soaking or you'll get an uneven flavor between pieces.
Step 2: Heat Your Meat
Allow your meat to bake for at least 5-6 hours in your car with the windows only slightly opened to allow the moisture to escape and the car air out. This will vary upon time of year and exposure to the sun. Rule of thumb, if it's 90 outside, it's 170 in the window.
Every couple of hours, don't forget to flip your meat to evenly heat it.
P.S. Don't leave your phone in the car, this isn't an ingredient for jerky, but a recipe for disaster!
Step 3: Pulling Your Meat Out.
There is is ladies and gentlemen! One pound of hard meat for you to put in your mouth and enjoy!
Ignore the smoke in the background, that's just my burn pit.
