Decorative Milk Carton

Hello and welcome to my first Instructable! It's wonderful that you have decided to come and look at how to DIY a decorative milk carton for your room, locker, a party, or whatever! So... what are you waiting for? Let's gather supplies and get started!

Supplies

You will need:

  • A large sheet of cardstock (I used 12x18)
  • A straight-edge ruler
  • Scissors
  • Glue/Tape
  • Decorating tools (optional. I used markers and a gel pen, but you can use whatever you like!)

Draw Template

I made mine so it folds to about 3"x3"x2", but you can use whatever sizes fit your needs. In case you are using my size, each side measures to 3"x6", the tabs at the bottom are 3"x3", and the ones at the top are 3"x2". The extra tab at the end is 1.5"x6". Use a straight edge ruler so your lines don't get messy, and don't forget to cut your general shape out.

Draw and Color Design (Optional)

Now for the fun part: draw and color your carton! Since I love the kawaii aesthetic and My Hero Academia, I decided on this design. If this does not fit your needs, you are more than welcome to use a different design or not use one at all.

Make Additional Cuts and Folds

Now for the other fun part: assembly! Start this by making extra cuts at the sides of the top and bottom flaps. Also, fold the panels and side flap so that they are all facing right-side out. Fold the bottom flaps up into the center of the carton and the top flaps down into the same area. This will make it easier for true assembly.

Assemble!

Put glue on your bottom flaps and side flap, and fold again! Make sure that the bottom flaps go on top of each other in order to close the bottom. If you plan weigh it down or use it for party favors, place your objects of choice in the carton. Pick two top flaps (they must be parallel to each other) to fold in half in a certain way to put the other two together. Apply glue on the top portion of your top flaps, and press together. Let dry.

Congratulations! You have completed making a milk carton.
