Dehydrated Apple Snacks
Today, we are going to look at how to make dehydrated apples. This is a convenient way to preserve apples to make them last up to 6 months, instead of weeks at best just sitting on the counter.
The ingredients/ supplies needed are as follows:
- As many apples as you want
- A knife
- Ziploc bags
- A Dehydrator
- Bowl
- Lemon Juice - enough to fill half the bottom of the bowl
- Water - enough to fill the other half of the bottom of the bowl.
I will include pictures to help guide you along the way.
Wash, Cut and Core Your Apples
I like to cut my apples into fourths and proceed to cut out the cores (shown in the 4th picture) by slicing right down the middle, very slowly, so as to only take out as much as you need.
Skin and Soak
Here, i like to go slow to make a precision slice. So as to take just the skin of the apple off, but not take away too much of the inside. As shown in the second picture, you will want to cut out little brown spots on the apple, as that will have a negative effect regarding taste.
Proceed to slice your fourths into thin slices, and soak your slices in a bowl with a 50-50 mix of lemon juice and water. This soaking will ensure that the apples will not brown prematurely during the dehydration process.
Turn on Dehydrator
Plug in and turn your dehydrator to 135 setting.
Line Up Apple Slices on Tray
Line up your apple slices on the tray in a vertical fashion and fit horizontally where gaps are left.
Wait 10 hours for the final product.
Store Away
Once the 10 hour period is up, its time to use those Ziploc bags to store away for future use.
Depending on how much you want to store away, use whatever size Ziploc bag you are comfortable using.
You can sprinkle some cinnamon or nutmeg on your apple slices, but I enjoy them as they are.
I hope this helps you make some delicious snacks.
Thank you and i hope this Instructable helps you.
