Delicious and Healthy Apple Chips

IMG_1652.jpg

These chips have barely any calories and provide fiber. They taste kind of like apple cider (sweet and cinnamony). Also, they're crazy addictive. I'll go through five apples worth of chips in a day. Though I used homegrown apples for this, feel free to use store bought ones instead. Enjoy!

Ingredients

IMG_1641.jpg

-Apples

-Cinnamon

-Nutmeg

-Oil or Butter (for greasing the baking sheet)

-Ground up Ginger (optional)

-Allspice (optional)

-Sugar (optional)

-Any other spice that goes well with apples!

Tools

-Knife
-Baking Sheet

It makes it easier if you have a:

-Mandolin Cutter

-Apple corer

Core

Preheat the oven to 200 degrees. Take the cores out of the apples with your apple corer. If you don't have one, use your knife instead. Also, chop off any unwanted rotten spots. Don't cut yourself (I've made that mistake a few too many times).

Cut Those Apples

I have a mandolin cutter, so I set it on the thinnest setting it could go and put in the ruffle blade (ruffled chips always taste better). If you don't have a mandolin cutter, use a knife to chop the apples as thinly as you can (consider cooking them a little longer because they will be thicker).

Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice

Grease your baking sheet. Spread your chopped apples out on the baking sheet, being careful not to overlap them. Sprinkle cinnamon, nutmeg, and whatever other spices you decided on. Just using cinnamon and nutmeg is the best combination I've found so far, but be creative! (That's what this site is about, right?)

Cooking

Put the tray of apples in the oven for 30 minutes, then flip them and cook for 30 minutes on the other side. Once they start to curl up, you're done! Congrats! You have made some delicious and healthy apple chips. Please vote for me if you thought this was helpful! Also, leave comments below about what spices you liked best on the chips and what alterations (if any) you made to the recipe. Thank you!
