Design a 3D Printable Fidget Spinner With Fusion 360

Use Fusion 360 to make a Fidget Spinner that can be 3D printed.

This Instructable is suitable for beginners. No basic knowledge of Fusion 360 needed.

Sketch a Rectangle

  1. Start with a New Design.
  2. Click the Create Sketch icon.
  3. Select the XZ plane (the plane created by the blue axis and red axis).
  4. Click Sketch -> Rectangle -> 2-Point Rectangle.
  5. Sketch a rectangle. Type 28 mm for the width and 30 mm for the height.
  6. Note: To toggle between the two dimensions hit the Tab key on your keyboard.

Sketch Some Circles

  1. Click Sketch -> Circle -> Center Diameter Circle.
  2. Find the center of the upper 28 mm long line and sketch a circle of 28 mm.
  3. Sketch another circle of 22.05 mm from the same center point as the previous circle.
  4. Find the center of the lower 28 mm long line and sketch a circle of 28 mm.
  5. Sketch another circle of 22.05 mm from the same center point as the previous circle.
  6. Click Stop Sketch.

Make a 3D Geometry

  1. Click Extrude from the toolbar in the Create section. Or hit E on your keyboard.
  2. Select all the profiles that need to be extruded.
  3. Enter 7 mm.
  4. Click OK.

Copy the 3D Geometry

  1. Click Create -> Pattern -> Circular Pattern.
  2. In the Circular Pattern dialog box, change the Pattern Type to Bodies.
  3. Select the body.
  4. Click Select next to Axis.
  5. Select the lower face as Axis (see the image).
  6. In the Circular Pattern dialog box, change the Quantity to 3.
  7. Click OK.

Combine the Bodies

  1. Click Modify -> Combine.
  2. Make sure the Operation is set to Join.
  3. Select the body1 as the Target Body.
  4. Select the body2 and body3 as the Tool Bodies.
  5. Click OK.

Sketch the Caps for the Fidget Spinner

  1. Click the Create Sketch icon.
  2. Select the XZ plane (the plane created by the blue axis and red axis).
  3. Click Sketch -> Circle -> Center Diameter Circle .
  4. Sketch a circle with the diameter of 22 mm away from the fidget spinner body.
  5. Sketch another circle with the diameter of 11 mm using the same center point as the previous circle.
  6. Sketch another circle with the diameter of 8.15 mm using the same center point as the previous circles.
  7. Click Stop Sketch.

Create the Cap for the Fidget Spinner

  1. Click Extrude from the toolbar in the Create section. Or hit E on your keyboard.
  2. Select the outer (biggest) circle profile and extrude it to 2.5 mm.
  3. Click OK.
  4. Notice: The sketch is turned off now. To turn it on again, expand the Sketches node in the browser, and click the light bulb next to the Sketch 1.
  5. Click Extrude from the toolbar in the Create section. Or hit E on your keyboard.
  6. Select the middle (medium) circle profile and extrude it to 3 mm.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Click Extrude from the toolbar in the Create section. Or hit E on your keyboard.
  9. Select the inner (smallest) circle profile and extrude it to 5.5 mm.
  10. Click OK.

Fillet the Edges

  1. Click Fillet from the toolbar in the Modify section. Or hit F on your keyboard.
  2. Select all the outer edges of the fidget spinner.
  3. Note: Rotate the design so you can easily select the edges.
  4. Enter 3.5 mm.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click Fillet from the toolbar in the Modify section again. Or hit F on your keyboard.
  7. Select the bottom edge of the cap.
  8. Note: Rotate the design so you can easily select the edge.
  9. Enter 2.5 mm.
  10. Click OK.

Copy the Cap

  1. Right click somewhere in the canvas to access the marking menu.
  2. Click Move/Copy.
  3. Change the Move Object to Bodies.
  4. Select the Cap.
  5. Change the Move Type to Translate.
  6. Check the Create Copy checkbox.
  7. Use the manipulator to drag the copy away from the original cap.
  8. Click OK.
