Designing Cookie Cutter in Fusion 360

I originally designed this gingerbread man skeleton cookie cutter for our local STEM club. The clubbers were absolutely thrilled to design their own cookie cutters and learn about digital modeling! A big shoutout to hack club who helped us print these cookie cutters. If I'm fortunate enough to win this Instructables contest, my plan is to purchase a 3D printer for our club so the clubbers can see their creations come to life right in our own space. I hope you enjoy making this spooky cookie cutter as much as we did!
Supplies
- Fusion 360 software
- Reference image of a gingerbread man skeleton
- Basic understanding of Fusion 360 interface
Step 1: Set Up Your Workspace
- Open Fusion 360 and create a new design.
- Select the XY plane as your sketch plane.
- Go to Insert → Canvas and select your gingerbread man skeleton image.
- Position the canvas on the XY plane and scale it to your desired cookie size (typically 3-4 inches tall).
- Calibrate the canvas if you need exact dimensions
Trace the Outer Cookie Shape

- Create a new sketch on the XY plane.
- Select the Spline tool from the sketch menu.
- Carefully trace the outer silhouette of the gingerbread man.
- Place points strategically at curves and corners.
- Use fewer points for smoother curves.
- Close the spline by connecting the last point to the first.
- Finish the sketch.
Create the Cookie Cutter Base

- Select the outer gingerbread man sketch.
- Click Extrude from the Create menu.
- Extrude upward (positive direction) to a height of 10mm.
- Then use the shell feature
- You will be left with walls which forms base of your cookie cutter.
Trace the Skeleton Details

- Create another new sketch on the XY plane.
- Using the Spline tool again, trace the internal skeleton details.
- Include ribcage, spine, arm bones, leg bones, and skull features.
- Keep lines simple but recognizable.
- Ensure all splines are closed shapes for proper embossing.
- Finish the sketch
- Extrude it
Create the Cutting Edge (if You Don'twant the Imprints)
- Create a new sketch on the top face of your extruded shape.
- Draw an offset of the outer edge (about 1mm inward).
- Extrude this offset downward by 15mm.
- This creates the cutting edge that will press into the dough.
