I originally designed this gingerbread man skeleton cookie cutter for our local STEM club. The clubbers were absolutely thrilled to design their own cookie cutters and learn about digital modeling! A big shoutout to hack club who helped us print these cookie cutters. If I'm fortunate enough to win this Instructables contest, my plan is to purchase a 3D printer for our club so the clubbers can see their creations come to life right in our own space. I hope you enjoy making this spooky cookie cutter as much as we did!

Supplies

  1. Fusion 360 software
  2. Reference image of a gingerbread man skeleton
  3. Basic understanding of Fusion 360 interface

Step 1: Set Up Your Workspace

  1. Open Fusion 360 and create a new design.
  2. Select the XY plane as your sketch plane.
  3. Go to Insert → Canvas and select your gingerbread man skeleton image.
  4. Position the canvas on the XY plane and scale it to your desired cookie size (typically 3-4 inches tall).
  5. Calibrate the canvas if you need exact dimensions

Trace the Outer Cookie Shape

  1. Create a new sketch on the XY plane.
  2. Select the Spline tool from the sketch menu.
  3. Carefully trace the outer silhouette of the gingerbread man.
  4. Place points strategically at curves and corners.
  5. Use fewer points for smoother curves.
  6. Close the spline by connecting the last point to the first.
  7. Finish the sketch.

Create the Cookie Cutter Base

  1. Select the outer gingerbread man sketch.
  2. Click Extrude from the Create menu.
  3. Extrude upward (positive direction) to a height of 10mm.
  4. Then use the shell feature
  5. You will be left with walls which forms base of your cookie cutter.

Trace the Skeleton Details

  1. Create another new sketch on the XY plane.
  2. Using the Spline tool again, trace the internal skeleton details.
  3. Include ribcage, spine, arm bones, leg bones, and skull features.
  4. Keep lines simple but recognizable.
  5. Ensure all splines are closed shapes for proper embossing.
  6. Finish the sketch
  7. Extrude it

Create the Cutting Edge (if You Don'twant the Imprints)

  1. Create a new sketch on the top face of your extruded shape.
  2. Draw an offset of the outer edge (about 1mm inward).
  3. Extrude this offset downward by 15mm.
  4. This creates the cutting edge that will press into the dough.
