Die on the Workplane
Project Overview:
This project is all about the Workplane and how to make it "work" for you.
Instructions
- Continue to the next step.
The Die Is Almost Done...
We're starting with a die that is almost done, you simply need to add the 5 and 6.
Instructions
- Go ahead and use your mouse or the ViewCube and look around the die.
- You will see a number on all the other sides.
- Continue to the next step.
Move the Workplane
Now move the workplane to the front of the die.
Instructions
- You can find the workplane tool at the top of the browser on the right of the screen, just above the shapes.
- Drag a workplane to the front of the die.
Hint:You can also press W on your keyboard to start the workplane command.
- Continue to the next step.
Place the Number 5
Great Job! The workplane should look like it is sitting on the front of the die.
Instructions
- In the shapes panel, change the shapes drop down to "Design Starters"
- Navigate to the "Letters & Numbers" section.
- Drag a the number 5 to the workplane.
- Position it near the area highlighted in orange.
- Continue to the next step.
Scale the 5 Smaller
Because the 5 is sitting on the front of the die, we need to make some adjustments.
Instructions
- Let's scale the thickness of the 5 down to 1mm, so it matches the area highlighted in orange.
- You can change the snap grid from 1.0 to 0.25 to help position the 5.
- Continue to the next step.
Rinse and Repeat...
Repeat the previous steps to add a 6 to the top of the die.

- Drag a workplane to the top of the die.
Hint: remember you can press W on the keyboard to start the workplane command - Continue to the next step.
Add the Number 6
Let's add the number 6!
Instructions
- Find the number 6 in the shapes panel on the right of the screen and drag it to the area highlighted in orange.
- Continue to the next step.
Make the 6 Shorter
Let's make sure the 6 doesn't stick out past the edge of the die.
Instructions
- Scale the number 6 to 1mm in height.
- Continue to the next step.
Reset the Workplane
Let's set the workplane back to its original location.
Instructions
- Drag workplane to a blank location in the work area.
- Make sure not to drop the workplane on a shape this time.
- This is how you reset your workplane.
- Continue to the next step.
Almost Done!
Now you just need to group all the shapes together.
Instructions
- Select all the shapes, including the die.
- Click group on the toolbar to make them a single shape.
- Continue to the next step.
