Dis-assembling/ Assembling a Scooter (Threaded System)
At some point or another, you will need to dis-assemble or assemble your scooter. Threaded systems are pretty straight foreword (no compression systems to worry about) and rather simple.
Gather Your Tools
Tools:
2 Allen Keys, 3/16th in size (Your scooter should have come with one or two depending on what model/make it is)
Monkey Wrench
Remove the Wheels
First things first, lets get ride of those wheels. All you need to do is loosen the axles, if this is the scooter's first time being taken apart then there might be Locktight so watch it. Once you get those wheels off, put them and the axles aside.
Removing the Bars
Next is the bars. Locate the clamp, it will be at the bottom of the bars, just above the headset. Once again you just need to loosen the Allen bolt, Locktight has been known to dwell here.
After you loosen the clamp you should be able to ether pull or twist the bars off. Set the clamp and bars next to your wheels.
Removing the Fork and Headset
Now that the bars are off you should see the headset rather clearly. Take the Monkey Wrench and loosen the top ring. Make sure you loosen the two rings separately, otherwise you risk striping your fork.
Once you have the top ring off, loosen the bottom ring in the same manner. Once the bottom ring is off you can remove the fork.
There are two bearing rings in your scooter's head tube, one in the top and one in the bottom. These are very impotent as that they assist in making your bars and fork turn. Make sure none of the ball bearing fall off their ring.
The way they are placed is also very impotent. You want the bearings on the two rings to point into the head tube. When the rings are properly in place the top bearings will point down, and the bottom bearings will point up. Look at the pictures!
Finished Product
Congrats! Your scooter is now completely dismantled. It is smart to take your scooter apart and clean/re-grease the head set and bearings every other month or so. You may also want to take a wet wash cloth and some mellow cleaner to your deck, bars, clamp, and fork. Dirt and grim build up in these areas can cause rust.
To re-assemble, just reverse the steps.
