Diy Customizable GM Screen From Ring Binder
Do you need a GM screen but don't want to buy a new one every game? Is the official screens not to your liking? then this is something for you. This GM screen uses ring binders and plastic folders to make it customizable.
This is my first instructable so the quality might not be that good.
Supplies
- Two ring binders
- 3-4 transparent plastic binder folders
- Tape
- Knife (and scissor if preferred)
Supplies
Get a couple of ring binders. If you want you can get binders with inserts on the outside. This saves you from getting plastic binder folders. I got my binders from a goodwill for 5 crowns (50 cents) each.
Get a couple of plastic folders. Use the ones with just one opening on one of the short sides. If it has holes for a ring binder you can cut it in a later step.
Tools
- Tape. you need some kind of tape to attach the binder pieces together. In my example I use black duck tape. If you are going to attach folders for custom cheat sheets you will also need transparent tape.
- Tools for cutting. I only used a "carpet knife" but in some of the steps you can use a scissor. I would recommend some kind of cutting tool due to the thickness of the binders.
KNIVES ARE SHARP, BE CAREFUL! Don't be a ding-dong like me and cut off a piece of your finger.
Cut Off the Front and Back of the Binder
Just cut off the front and back of your ring binders.
Depending on how large you want your GM screen to be you need 3 or 4 pieces of fronts/backs.
Stack Two of the Pieces on Top of Eachother
Put one of your pieces on top of another. Do not stack all your pieces at this pint in time.
Tape One Side Together
Tape one of the sides together on the outside. Depending if you want a high or a lower GM screen you can tape the long or the short side.
Tape the Inside
Open it up like a book. Pull the "pages" apart as much as you can without ripping the tape. This will leave a little gap between the pages. Tape the inside seam. try to push the tape into the gap. This will make it possible to nicely fold your screen when not in use.
Add Another Page
Put another page on top of the other ones.
Tape the pages together on the outside again. Tape the opposite side of the side you taped previously. This will make it fold together a bit better.
Tape the Inside
Tape the inside of your GM screen the same way you did before. The gap will be a bit larger than the previous gap. This is necessary for the screen to fold properly.
First Part Is Done
Now you have a perfectly functional GM screen. But if you want cheat sheets on the inside you need some way to attach it. You can just glue them on but by attaching plastic folders you can easily change what you have inside.
Cut Off the Side
If you have plastic folders with a border you need to cut it off. This is where i cut my finger.
Tape or Glue the Plastic Folders. Insert Your "Cheat Sheets"
Now you just tape the plastic folders to every "page" of your GM screen. If you want to put something on the front you can just tape plastic folders there too.
Then just add something useful. I'm using a printable keepers screen for the call of Cthulhu.
Finished
Congratulations! You now have a customizable GM screen.
I made two different ones. One with three pages and one with four. The pages are in landscape orientation but you can make a screen in portrait. If you do I would recommend that you make a four page screen.
