Doodlebot Using a DC Motor
This project creates a robot using a paper cup and dc motor, that moves across a piece of paper to create doodles.
This works by attaching a motor to an offset weight, which for us is the bottlecap. Then, when the motor spins, it results in the robot vibrating and moving. Try experimenting with different numbers of markers, heights, and colors to create different patterns!
Supplies
1x Paper cup
3x Markers
1x 1.5V battery (+ battery holder)
1x Motor
1x Bottlecap (any type should work-- I used one from a milk bottle)
Paper
Hot glue
Adding the Markers
Tape three markers to the inside of your cup, so that half of each sticks out above the rim.
Adding the Motor
Flip your cup over. Using hot glue or tape, attach your battery and motor to the top of the cup. They should be positioned on opposite sides so the cup maintains balance.
Adding the Cap
Hot glue the top of the bottlecap to the end of the motor. This will act as a counterweight, and allows our doodle bot to vibrate and move.
Finishing the Circuit
Connect the positive wire of the battery holder to one end of the motor. Connect the negative wire to the other end, and secure with tape, if needed. Your doodle bot should start moving. Uncap your markers and place it on a piece of paper to create some art!
