Barbecue Sauce! Homemade Barbecue Sauce! Homemade Dr. Pepper Barbecue Sauce! Are there 5 words that sound better?  I decided to make something that combines two things I love (Dr. Pepper and Barbecue).

As with most recipes, you can adjust the spices to your particular liking.

Enjoy!

Ingredients.

Note: This recipe will yield a little over a quart.

3 cups Dr. Pepper

2 Tbsp. Honey

8 oz. Tomato Sauce

1 tsp. Black Pepper

1/4 tsp. Sea Salt

2 Tbsp. White Vinegar

1 tsp. Onion Powder

1 tsp. Garlic Powder

1 tsp. Cumin

Boil It Down.

Pour your Dr. Pepper in a sauce pan over high heat. Bring to boil and reduce heat to simmer. Simmer for 30 minutes.

The idea is to boil the Dr. Pepper until it reduces. It should reduce by almost a full cup.

Mix and Simmer.

Once the volume of liquid has reduced add your remaining ingredients. Simmer for an additional 20 minutes, stirring constantly.

Note: Do not leave your sauce unattended while simmering, as is may boil over!

Remove from heat and allow to cool.

Bottle It.

Once your sauce has cooled sufficiently, place it in the container of your choice. I would describe the finished product as slightly sweet, with a mild heat in the back of your throat. This sauce will work well with pork or chicken.

It should keep for quite a while as long as you refrigerate it.
