Halloween isn't just for humans! Time to include your dog in some Halloween fun!! Include your furry friend in this year's Halloween celebrations by crafting a dragon costume for your dog.

Our new puppy Buddy enjoys attention from anybody and everybody and he seems to receive even more attention when I've taken him out in public sporting his Halloween cuteness this year.

My tutorial will show you all the steps and includes the pattern for the dragon dog costume so you can make the exact same costume! Hope you enjoy!

Supplies Needed:

Materials:

I started this project off by creating the pattern for the dragon costume. I took measurements of my puppy (Buddy) and drew out the pattern pieces with pen and paper. Once the pattern sketches were complete, I created digital files and converted them to a PDF printable pattern to share here with all of the Instructable viewers. Buddy is a young puppy and weighs about 3 1/2 pounds so keep that in mind if you try out the pattern (you may need to enlarge it to accommodate your own dog.

To create the costume I started out by cutting out the pattern pieces from green glitter felt and black fleece that I harvested from an old sweatshirt. If you are using the pattern I created, make sure to read the labels so you know how many pieces to cut of each, which material to cut them from, and if they need to be flipped in reverse.

I started out by sewing the green felt tendril pieces into the main body and also the tail pieces by sandwiching the felt pieces into the black fleece pieces with right sides together as shown in the photo. Next I sewed the other long side of the tail piece together, leaving the bottom open to form an opening to stuff. Once I sewed the two sides of the tail together, I turned the tail right side out and stuffed with the poly fill and tacked the bottom edge closed.

Finally, I attached the tail to the main body piece by placing it with right sides together and used a zigzag stitch.

Attaching the Straps and Feet

To make the straps, I placed two pieces with right sides together and sewed down three sides leaving one side open to turn right side out. Next, I repeated the process to make the second belly strap. Both straps were then turned right side out and top stitched down both long sides.

I pinned the feet in place at the top of the tail on both sides as shown and also at 3 3/4" down from neck strap. The straps were then pinned in place at 3 1/4" past the edge of the back feet as shown. Once pinned in the proper place (on the wrong side of the assembled body piece), I zigzag stitched them in place.

Then I stitched the velcro into the straps on both sides.

Sewing the Hood

It was now time for the last of the main pieces of the dragon costume. Hem the long sides of both hood pieces. Sew the two hood pieces together at the top curve with right sides together. Pin the lower edge of the hood piece to the neck line of the body piece with right sides together and sew to attach.

Sewing the Wings

Now it was time to place both wing pieces with right sides together and sew around them leaving a 4" opening. Once sewn, I turned the wings right side out and stuffed them with the poly fill. I used a sewing needle to close the wings up by hand. Next, I cut a notch out of my felt tendril where I wanted to place the wings on the back. I placed the wings into the back and sewed vertically into the back of the body piece.

Making and Attaching the Eyes

I made things easy on myself and used hot glue gun to assemble the eyes and then hot glue the eyes to the hood.

Wear and Enjoy!
