Dresser Knob Cozies

Cozies are everywhere, on iPods, tea pots, coffee cups, and pretty much anything that could use some extra warmth or support. While cozies are usually functional, how about a cozy that is purely decorative and that adds a touch of design to something otherwise very plain? Ikea sells a lot of wood furniture that could use a little sprucing up. My bedroom is very colorful already, with 3 walls painted green and the 4th wall painted in stripes (4 colors). I wasn't ready to paint or decoupage my dresser for fear of a color explosion, but it still needed something. Enter my crochet skills: I decided to crochet some cozies that would tightly fit over the knobs, but that were stretchable enough that I could remove them. (Seasonal colors? Holiday variations? The possibilities are endless!)

The knobs are 1 1/4 inches in diameter and just over 1 inch in depth (from end to end, where it hits the dresser base). If your knobs are slightly different, do what I did, and every other round in the crochet instructions, see how it's going to fit.

Prepare and Round 1

You will need small amounts of yarn and an F hook. I used worsted weight yarn for the pastel knob cozies, and the red/pink/orange yarn in the main picture, which did not specify its weight but is 4 sts to an inch.

With F hook, ch 2, 6 sc into 2nd ch from hook, join.

Round 2

ch 1, 2sc into each sc. Do not join (from here on out, never join). (12 sc)

Round 3

2sc into next st, sc into next. Continue 2sc, sc all the way around. (18 sc)

Round 4

IMG_3853.jpg
Sc in each stitch, all the way around. It will start to curve into itself at this point. Make sure the right side is always facing you.

Round 5

IMG_3855.jpg
Sc all the way around again, EXCEPT, make one decrease in the middle and one at the end.

Round 6

IMG_3858.jpg
Sc all the way around again, EXCEPT, make one decrease at the beginning, one in the middle, and one at the end. (Now is a good time to see how it will fit on your knob)

Round 7

IMG_3856.jpg
Sc all the way around.

Round 8

IMG_3859.jpg
Decrease at the beginning and sc all the way around. Join and finish off. Weave in both yarn ends into the inside of the cozy.

Repeat

Repeat the pattern for as many knobs on dresser there are.
