Dressing for Exercise in the Cold

Exercising outdoors can be very enjoyable, but especially during the cold months of the year, an important factor to consider is your body temperature You need to make sure you are staying warm enough that your body doesn't have to spend extra energy keeping you warm, but also, you need to make sure you don't overdress where your body is too hot and needs energy to cool you down. Finding that perfect medium of keeping your body at an ideal temperature while also wearing clothes that don't restrict your movement is hard, but this instructable is here to help!

Supplies

Supplies vary by weather, but here is a list of anything you could possibly need: shorts, t-shirt, long-sleeve shirt, normal undergarments, thermal underwear bottoms, athletic pants/sweatpants, thermal top, thermal jacket, athletic pullover, gloves, beanie, normal socks, thick socks, scarf.

>55 Degrees Fahreinheit (12.7C)

Shorts, t-shirt/sports bra, normal undergarments.

At this point your body will be focusing on cooling you down, not warming you up, so there is no need for extra layers.

45-55 Degrees Fahreinheit (7.2 - 12.7C)

Shorts, long-sleeve shirt, normal undergarments, gloves

Your arms will always start to get cold before your legs, so this is the first place to start adding layers.

35-45 Degrees Fahrenheit (1.7 - 7.2C)

Thermal or compression bottoms, shorts, t-shirt, athletic pullover, gloves.

At this point your legs as well as the rest of your body will start getting a bit cold, meaning you should have some clothes covering most of your body.

25-35 Degrees Fahrenheit (-3.9 - 1.7C)

Thermal underwear bottoms, athletic pants/sweatpants, thermal underwear top, athletic pullover, gloves, beanie.

At this point, with improper clothing you will definitely be feeling uncomfortable, making it important to have thermal and double layers in the core parts of your body.

<25 Degrees Fahrenheit (-3.9C)

Thermal underwear bottoms, athletic pants/sweatpants, thermal top, thermal jacket, gloves, beanie, thick socks, scarf.

You are now at the point where you have to more more bulky and restrictive clothing to be warm enough going outside to exercise. Even if you love the outdoors, here you might have to make the call that exercising inside would be better.
