Dried Lavender Snowflake

I don't really have much of a winter in my area. What I do have in January and February is lavender in bloom! I decided to make my own snowflakes out of dried lavender stems and I couldn't be happier with the result!

I plan on making more, smaller and larger, and hanging them around the house. If you love dried flowers, this is the craft for you. Experiment and make this your own with other dried or fake flowers.

I cut long lengths of my lavender then hung them upside down in my garage to dry for a week. If you already have stems of dried lavender, you are good to go!

Trim your lavender so that six stems are approximately the same length, the largest part of your snowflake. Mine were about 6 inches not including the flowers.

Glue your six lavender lengths into three with the flowers at either end. I used a small dab of hot glue at the middle and both ends to secure.

Arrange your lavender so that they are positioned with six evenly spaced points like a snowflake. At this point you could simply hang it with your thread, I added a bud in the middle to hide the glue. But move on to the next step for more ideas!

I tried adding more and more buds and stems to create my favorite pattern. The six stems glued into three created a strong base, then I added buds to each stem around the middle for added interest, then one directly in the center to cover the ends. Lastly I used smaller single stems glued to the back to create the final result.

I tied my invisible thread under the head of my top flower and hung it up! I hope you try this with lavender or other dried flowers. I also think eucalyptus could look neat!
