Duct Tape Book Cover
This book cover is heavy duty!
Materials needed for this project:
Newspaper or paper bag
Duct tape
Book to be covered
Sharpie or pen (not pictured).
Sizing the Book Cover
Start by opening up the newspaper completely. Place the book on the open newspaper. Fold the newspaper around the book to make sure there will be at least an inch of paper past the edge of the cover on every side.
Once you are sure you will have enough extra paper on the opening edge, take a sharpie and trace along the top and bottom of the book.
Remove the book from the paper and fold it on the traced edges of the book.
Repeat for the other side.
Folding the Book Cover
Place the book so the spine is at the center of the folded paper and the book rests on one half of the paper
Fold the other half over the front of the book. There should be 1 inch + of extra paper extending past the edge of the book cover.
Fold the excess paper over the edge of the cover and crease it.
Repeat for the back cover
Putting the Cover on the Book
Take piece of the newspaper that was folded over the edge of and look at the very end of the paper. You will see that you made a little pocket. Take the edge of the book and slip it into that pocket.
Do the same for the back cover.
When you look at the end of the book, you should be able to see that the edge of the front and back covers are in the pocket made by folding the newspaper.
Securing the Corners of the Cover
Take a piece of duct tape, approximately 6 inches long and tape the edge of the of the cover from front to back. Do this for all four corners of the book.
Then take a piece of duct tape that is approximately 2 inches longer than to book and tape the inside edge of the newspaper, folding the excess tape over the edge and onto the front.
Books tend to see most of their wear and tear on the corners and edges. This not only ensures the cover will stay on the book better, but it also makes the edge and corners of the book a little tougher.
Covering/Decorating the Cover With Duct Tape
Take strips of duct tape that are 2-4 inches longer than the book cover and start covering the newspaper. Do this until the entire newspaper is covered in duct tape.
This would be a great place to use some decorative or colored duct tape for a little flair.
I decided to add a different duct tape to the spin of the book for a simplistic decoration!
Once you have all the paper on the outside covered, you're done!
