Duncan Phyfe Table Restoration

Restoring a nice piece of furniture which had been ruined with paint.

Removing the old paint,I learned a tip from an older refinisher . I sprayed the table with oven cleaner. Once it is sprayed you leave it on working for about ten minutes I used a plastic straight edge scrapper. I then rinsed it off with water.

Sometime the old finish or paint has to be removed in stages.It has to be sprayed two or three times to remove all.Once you are finished spaying and scrapping rinse it off for the final time.Depending how much rinsing you need.I then put it in front of a fan to fully dry it off.Can you imagine the amount of sanding especially in the small cravaces.

Once the paint and old poly has been taken off it can be restrained and refinished with poly.
