Duplicate It!
The duplicate command is similar to the copy command, but has a few added benefits.
Let's try it out and see what the duplicate command can do.
Instructions
- Continue to the next step.
Select + Duplicate
Duplicating a shape will create an exact copy directly on top of the existing shape.
Instructions
- Drag a shape from the Shape Panel onto the Workplane in the center of the screen.
- Click the Duplicate icon in the top toolbar, the new shape will be placed exactly on top of the reference shape.
The duplicate hotkey is ctrl + D / ⌘ + D
Duplicate Again
The duplicate command has a special feature that remembers changes you make and reapplies them to each instance of the duplication.
Once a duplicated shape has been placed you can move or modify the duplicated shape, then press the duplicate icon again to create another copy with the changes applied again.
Instructions
- While it is selected, Make a change to the duplicated shape (move, stretch, etc.)
- Press the Duplicate icon again (or ctrl+D / ⌘+D) and see the changes applied to each instance of the duplication
- Continue pressing the Duplicate icon to create a pattern with the duplicates.
You Did It!
Great job, you did it!
You're now a duplicating pro.
Instructions
- Try duplicating more than one shape at a time by using the lasso tool (click and drag on screen to make a selection), or by clicking on a shape and then shift+click another shape.
- With the shapes selected try using the duplicate function to see what happens.
