ECO-Friendly Bus Stop

Modular Bus Stop.png

Hi, I am in 10th grade. When I looked at the topic of "Make it Modular", I instantly thought about buildings used in daily life. I wanted to design a building that will be created over and over again and needs a modular design. One idea that came to me was bus stops. Public transportation is a key element of many cities. It is a public space that a lot of people use, so I wanted to make it safe, so I imagined glass shields between benches. I also wanted to make my idea eco-friendly, so I imagined a bus stop that has plants growing on its walls. Using all my ideas I decided to start designing in TinkerCad. Below, I will outline all the features of my bus stop.

Roof

The roof can be used as a location to grow plants. As the world gets more polluted, we need to put plants in as many locations as possible. Since bus stops are put everywhere, this is a great spot to grow plants. It also brings out a green vibe to the location. The roof can also be repurposed with solar panels to run lights at the bus stop, so it can be fully sustainable without needing to be connected to the grid.

Back Wall

The back wall of this bus stop will include a plant wall. Plant walls are beautiful in public as they provide a green ambiance. This also creates a great environment for insects and creatures to thrive. In populated cities, we are taking away animal habitats. Plant walls will allow us to incorporate these habitats into our structures.

Benches and Seating

The benches have a very intentional design. The first thing you will notice is the glass barrier. This glass barrier is there to prevent the spread of covid-19. The spread of diseases is a big issue in our current time. Since bus stops are usually populated, this is the perfect environment to help stop the spread.

The benches also do not have a backrest to lean on. This is done, so people will not use the space as somewhere to sleep or waste time. This place is just to wait for the bus.

Storage Area

The shipping container can be used as a storage space or can even be converted into a shop. The interior of it could also be used to grow more plants and if needed can also be used for utilities such as restrooms. The interior also has roof access for workers to maintain the crops on the top.

Conclusion

The advantage of this bus stop compared to old ones is that it is easy to create and is eco-friendly. The main body of it is a shipping container that is reused to support the entire structure. The plants allow for cleaner air in populated cities and generally look cleaner. The glass shields help prevent the spread of covid-19. The shipping container can be used for many purposes in the future and can be adapted for the location that it's needed in. Overall the use of this bus stop will greatly improve public transportation. Thank You.
