"EXIT"- COIN DROP GAME

This is a family game using coins as playing pieces. Rules are simple, but the object is to be the first to get rid of all your coins. All is dependent on the roll of a single die but there are complications built into the rules which make winning not that easy. Playing pieces store in the game board box making this a compact unit which can be easily taken anywhere. Complete rules are included in the last step.

You will need a hinged box which latches closed. Mine was a dollar store find, approx. 8" X 6" X 2.5". Alternatively, you could build one but this is the minimum size you'd want. You'll need coins for playing pieces. Use the lowest denomination and smallest coin that your country uses. Where I live, (Canada) the penny ( 1 cent piece) is no longer in circulation but I had some saved so that's what I used. You"ll need scrap 1" pine, epoxy glue, 1" Forstner drill bit, 1 six sided die, (Some unusual coins for decoration and stick on letters, although these are optional. ) Sandpaper and some spray lacquer will finish the job.

My box had a photo window on top which I removed. I discarded the glass window and used the thin backing board as a template to measure and cut a piece of 1" (actually 3/4") pine to the same dimension.

Measure and mark out the pine board so that the 6- 1" Holes are evenly spaced. Use a punch to mark their location as a guide for the Forstner bit. IMPORTANT! You want to drill the first 5 holes only about 3/4 of the way through the wood. These will act as wells for the coins. The sixth hole goes all the way through. Sand the surface and use stick on letters to mark holes 1-6. I also added the name "EXIT." You could alternatively use marker for this.

Glue the game board to the box. Mine fit inside the photo window but you could just as easily glue it on top, just make sure hole 6 goes through into the box. I glued unusual coins to the box for decoration but that's optional and not necessary, it just makes it look good. Lastly, a shot of spray lacquer will preserve the finish.

I printed the rules on the original photo backing and glued them to the inside bottom of the box. Alternatively, you could cut and paste the following and do likewise:

THE OBJECT OF THE GAME IS TO BE THE FIRST TO GET RID OF ALL 12 OF YOUR COINS 

Determine who goes first by each player rolling the die. Highest # goes first- then play proceeds in a clockwise direction.

Player rolls the die and must put a coin in the space corresponding to the number shown on the die.

If the player rolls a number that already has a coin in it, they must take all of the coins on the board and then the turn goes to the next player. 

Hole number 6 lets the penny go inside the box so you can roll as many 6’s as possible without penalty.

Play continues until a player runs out of coins and is declared the winner. Redistribute the coins to start the next game.
