Easy DIY Latex Masks
Another MonsterTutorials.com tutorial for this, and every Halloween!
This is the easy way to make latex masks at home. These are perfect for busts, props, or even to wear!
For really visually detailed instructions, please watch the video (it will open in a new tab)!
Materials
Head Form
Toilet Paper Acrylic Paints
Liquid Latex
Disposable Sponge Brushes
Baby powder
Step 1: Layering the Form
Using the sponge brush, blot some liquid latex onto the head form on the area where you want the mask to be. Blot about the size of a square of toilet paper.
Gently lay a square (no straight edges) on top of the area with the liquid latex and smooth using the sponge brush.
Continue this process making sure that the toilet paper squares overlap each other. When the whole mask area is covered, let the liquid latex dry thoroughly.
Repeat prior steps for at least 4 layers of liquid latex and toilet paper. Let dry completely.
Step 2: Decorating Your Mask
Using the acrylic paints, decorate your mask. See the video for some ideas. I made a peeled face skin mask and some sort of witch/dead person.
Step 3: Finishing Touches
When your paint job is complete and dried, apply one more layer of liquid latex (with no toilet paper). This layer will dry clear and will protect your paint job. Let dry.
Generously powder the mask so it doesn't stick to itself using a brush and baby powder.
Step 4: Peeling the Mask
Carefully peel mask off the form making sure to use plenty of baby powder as you peel it off.
Cut some holes for the eyes, nostrils, mouth and ears (for safety).
And you are done! Woo hoo! Enjoy your mask. With this technique, you could easily make a half a dozen in a weekend! And make sure to subscribe to the official Monster Tutorials YouTube channel for more!
