Easy Fruit Sorbet/Slushie or Frozen Yogurt
Aaaah, summer, one of the best times of the year. We can play outside, hang out, and go to the beach, but oh no! It is to hot, and you have no ice-cream at home! Well let me introduce you to my friend the sorbet. You might not have heard of it, but think of it as ice-cream without dairy (you are welcome lactose intolerance people). Unlike ice-cream (which is heavy), sorbet is light and refreshing. If you want something similar to ice-cream, add some yogurt into the mix for the best frozen yogurt ever! This delicious summer time treat was invented in ancient Persia, and was beloved by famous historical figures such as Roman Emperor Nero, Marco Polo and the Italian duchess Catherine de' Medici. This is one of my favorite treats. and might be one of yours too!
Supplies
The ingredients you need to make this succulent, inviting, toothsome, flavorsome, delectable, aaaand, that might have been to far, sorry, I am too excited, 3 deep breaths...... the ingredients are below:
- 2-3 cups of your favorite fruit
- 1 tablespoon of honey
- 1 teaspoon lemon or lime juice
- Room temperature water as needed
- Yogurt (Optional, to make frozen yogurt)
PS; In this recipe, i made the sweeter, when the fruit is juicy (like oranges), usually go towards the sweeter recipe, and use the "more fruity" recipe for berries and such.
Preparation for Delicousness
More Fruity: So, to have that cold refreshing sorbet, you need to freeze your fruit, and what I would reccomend is cutting up your choice of fruit into bite size pieces. Then take a baking tray and line it with foil or wax paper. Lay out the fruit pieces on the tray (make sure they are not touching, or it will be ruined, joking). Freeze the pieces of fruit till they are solid, 4-5 hours minimum, or leave them overnight (if you have the patience) or if you dont have any patience just use frozen fruit from the grocery store.
Sweeter: To make a sorbet, squeeze out all the juice of fruit 3-4 citrus fruits (about 3 cups), and add lemon or lime juice. Add water and your fruit chunks into a pot, and let it boil, and then simmer for 5 minutes. Drain the water out into a bowl, and throw the peel away, put the water back into the put, and add about 1-2 cups sugar and let ot boil, and reduce. The water should turn sticky and slightly syrupy, then put the mixture in the fridge and let cool to make syrup.
Blend, Mix, and Yogurt?
More Fruity: So after your fruit is frozen, dump them in a food processer or heavy duty blender. Add your honey and lemon or lime juice, and blend until smooth. Add warm water as needed, to soften up the sorbet. You should be able to scoop up the sorbet using a ice-cream scoop. If not put your sorbet into a air tight bowl and freeze for a few hours, the sorbet should last a month, but I doubt you would not eat it by then. You can eat it out of the blender like a barbarian or eat it out of a bowl like a civilzed person. Add some yogurt into the sorbet and blend for frozen yogurt (I didnt do it). DO NOT ADD YOGURT TO ANY CITRUS SORBET.
Sweeter: Mix the syrup. with the juice and freeze (Keep stirring every 1 hour). Once the shorbet starts thickening and starts rolling up like ice-cream, it is ready to eat. Serve in a chilled cup. If you leave the sorbet in the freezer overnight, slowly add hot water into the sorbet, and soften it up. It will soon become like a slushie, and add it back into the freezer for 1 hour, and then you can scoop it up or eat it.
Nutrition Facts
The nutrtion facts are in the above image. Sorbet is of course healthier than ice-cream, but just dont eat too much. Remember the type of fruit which you put into the sorbet, may make the calories vary, but not too much.
Why Are You Still Here?
Go eat your sorbet! My freezer broke, so it didnt refrigerate properly, so mine was more like a slushie, either way it was delicious. I will put an image from google, so you guys can see what it would look like.
