Crochet Doilies have been in use since the early Victorian era , from the 17th and the 18th century. Crocheted doilies never really went away. People started liking them as time passed.

Today many Crocheters love making Crocheted Table Runners because of how simple they are to make and they turn out so elegant when finished. Handmade Crochet Table Runners are a great way to add a touch of personality to your table setting. Often the table runners are made in long rectangle shape to spread over the table , but they are highly customizable. You can make them in any shape and size of your choice.

Today am sharing the pattern for Easy Vintage Crochet Table Runner. This is super easy and it works up really quick. The Table Runner pattern is made with Double Crochet V-Stitches and Shell Stitches. This is a great pattern for a beginners and experienced crocheters as well.

Base - 8 inches - Customizable to any size

4 Ply Cotton Knitting Yarn

4 mm Crochet Hook

Round 1:-

Start with a Slip Knot.

Chain 40.

Round 2:-

1 Double Crochet V-Stitch in the 5th Chain from the hook.

Skip 3 Stitches

Repeat(1 DC V-St, Sk3)

1 Double Crochet in the last stitch.

Once you reach end, Chain2 and use the Straight Edge Turning Chain method to make the turning chain.

Straight Edge Turning Chain:-

Usually you would Chain 2, turn and start working the next round. Here is a quick tip to have a nice straight edge .

  1. Insert the hook into the 1st chain from the bottom.
  2. Yarn over and pull up a loop. You should have 2 loops on the hook.
  3. Turn your project and insert the hook into the first stitch.
  4. Yarn over and pull up a loop. You will have 3 loops on the hook.
  5. Again, yarn over and pull through 2 loops. You will have 2 loops on the hook.
  6. Lastly, yarn over and pull through 2 loops.
  7. This will make one Double Crochet.

How to Make a Double Crochet V-Stitch...?..... Here it is!!:-

(1 Double Crochet , Chain 2,1 Double Crochet into the same Stitch)

**make all the stitches in the same stitch.

Round 3 :-

**This Round, we will be working only into the V-Stitches

1 Double Crochet is already made with the Turning Chain.

1 Shell Stitch(i.e,5 Double Crochets into the same stitch) into the V-Stitch.

1 Double Crochet V-Stitch into the next V-Stitch.

Repeat(1Shell St,1V-St).

1 Double Crochet into the last stitch.

Once you reach end, Chain 2 and use the Straight Edge Turning Chain method mentioned in the previous round to make the Turning Chain.

Round 4:-

1 Double Crochet is already made with the Turning Chain.

1 Double Crochet V-Stitch into the Middle Stitch (i.e.the 3rd Stitch)of the Shell Stitch.

1 Double Crochet V-Stitch into the next V-Stitch.

Repeat(1VSt(into the Middle St of the Shell St),1 VSt (into the next VSt)).

1 Double Crochet into the last stitch.

Once you reach end, Chain 2 and use the Straight Edge Turning Chain method to make the Turning Chain.

Round 5 Onwards :-

Keep Repeating Round 3 and Round 4 untill the size needed.

To end the table runner Finish Off with a Repeat of Round 4 and Weave off.
