Easy to Make Ration/Survival Bars
Sorry for a lack of photographic aid, but this is fairly straightforward and shouldn't be too hard.
Serves 6 at 1000 calories a bar. I recommend cutting into 12 or more equal bars.
Ingredients
- 1 cup softened butter
- 1 cup sugar (I used brown sugar)
- 3 tbsp. light corn syrup (or a little more to taste)
- 3 tbsp. honey (called for raw, I used homogenized)
- 1/2 tsp vanilla
- 9-1/2 cups finely ground rolled oats
- 1/2 cup sliced almonds
Instructions
1 - Cream together butter, sugar, corn syrup, honey, and vanilla.
2 - Grind rolled oats using food processor or coffee grinder (I used a Magic Bullet and ran the almonds through as well).
3 - Softly stir in almonds and oats.
4 - Press into a 13"x9" pan (or similar).
5 - Bake at 325 F for 15-20 minutes. DO NOT OVER COOK.
6 - VERY IMPORTANT - As soon as you remove the pan from the oven, press the mixture firmly with a spatula.
7 - Cut into squares and let cool in the pan.
Obviously use alternatives to almonds if you're concerned about nut allergies.
