Emergancy Lamp

I found this beautiful blue bottle and it took me a while to decide how to re-purpose it and came up with an attractive emergency light.

The materials I used were (left to right) a small lamp shade that grasps the light bulb (thrift store $1), LED tap light (99 cent store), beautiful blue discarded bottle (free), and empty plastic jar with a diameter to match the top diameter of the lampshade ( recycle).

Take the lampshade and form the wire that grasps the light bulb to grasp the LED tap light.  It wasn't tricky or hard, just spread and roll inward and mount the tap light up tight to the top of the shade.

The next thing is to get a clear base that fits the inside small diameter of the lampshade and tap light to support it on top of the bottle. I happened to have an empty peanut butter jar that matched. I cut the base at about an inch and a half height. then it was a little tricky to drill the center. I used a hole saw a little smaller than the opening of the bottle. Then I carefully widened the hole with my dremel using a grinding stone tool. I achieved a tight fit and chose to not glue it to the bottle, however my instructions are general enough to be modified to your particular size bottle and choice to use an appropriate adhesive. I'm partial to Shoe Goo.

Now you can find a convenient place for your little attractive emergency light. To use it you just lift up the shade, tap the light on and set it on the clear plastic ring, Off is just in the reverse order. The lighted pictures don't do it justice as the LED tap light gives off a lot of light. After I made this I decided to put it on my night stand feeling that it would be a long time if ever I would need it. A few months later the electricity went out in the evening for a couple hours and it was nice to have the soft glow of the lamp in the bedroom along with several other  LED tap lights  I have through out the house including the bathrooms.
