Epoxy Resin Underwater Teacup Model

Today I made an underwater epoxy resin teacup model with a little floating ship on top.

• Epoxy resin
• UV resin
• UV torch/lamp
• Transparent teacup
• Straws or sticks (something to build a boat with)
• Acrylic Paint
• Small Plastic Fish
• Rocks (optional)
• Shells (optional)
• Vine garland (optional)

First off you'll need a transparent teacup, because we'll be creating an underwater scene and you want to be able to see through the teacup itself.

Start the first layer of the model off by placing some rocks on the bottom of the teacup. Add some vines that extend out of the teacup itself, and then place a fish or two amongst the rocks.

Add a small amount of UV resin to the objects placed in the teacup, and then set it with a UV light to secure everything in place to stop and of the objects moving when adding more resin.

Add a thin layer of epoxy resin over the top of the objects to start building up your underwater scene, and then leave for a day to fully set.

Over the next few days repeat the same steps by adding fish on top of the cured epoxy resin, set in place with UV resin, and then add more epoxy resin. Add as many layers and fish as you want but make sure to leave a decent gap at the top of the teacup ready for the boat!

Now we're going to make a boat to sit on top of the final layer of resin. First get some paper straws or sticks, and cut to size making sure it'll fit inside the teacup. Cut and glue the straws together until you are happy with the boat shape. Once the glue has set paint the boat with acrylic paint (might need two coats) I chose brown but you can paint your boat whatever colours you want.

Once your boat is made and you're up to your final layer of epoxy resin, position the boat of the surface of the resin, add some UV resin to the bottom of the boat, and set the UV resin with a UV torch to make sure the boat won't move or float away. Once the boat is secure add your final layer of epoxy resin to secure the boat, and I think it looks quite nice to have a part of the boat underneathe the resin so it looks as if it's not just resting on the top.

Once the final layer of resin has set, feel free to decorate the sauce of the teacup with some shells. I just placed mine on buy you can glue them on etc if you want to. You can also cut the vines and position them in a different way, I left mine long around the sauce to look more like a shipwreck. And now you should have a lovely little underwater teacup model!
