Around this time of the year, we all start looking forward to the festivities in whatever way we celebrate the year's end. One thing that is true for us all is the scents and aromas that accompany the last month of the year. I enjoy the smells that accompany December and the calm it brings. Scented candles are a great way to welcome the festive season with the fragrances that accompany the jingles we love so I decided to make an Essence of December Scented Candle with 3 of the smells of the season I enjoy the most.

Supplies

What You Will Need:

Stainless Steel Pot

4 Glasses/Jars

1/2 Tea Spoon Cranberry Extract

1/2 Tea Spoon Pine Scent Extract

1/2 Tea Spoon Cinnamon Extract

3 Ounces Wax

1 Candle Wick

Pine Tree Leafs

Straw/Chop Stick

Tape/Candle Wick Holder

Prepping

  • I started by filling the pot with water up to half the height of the glasses being used. The pot was then put to boil on medium heat. While waiting on the water to come to a boil, 3 of the glasses/jars will be used to melt and mix the 3 different candle scents. The 4th glass will be for the final candle.

  • Ensure the glasses are clean and completely dry then place one ounce of wax in each glass.

Mixing Ingredients

  • With all 3 glasses filled with one ounce of wax, the extracts are added. I used 1/2 Tea Spoon Pine Scent Extract to one ounce of wax.

  • 1/2 Tea Spoon Cinnamon Extract is added to the second glass and 1/2 Tea Spoon Cranberry Extract to the third.

  • For a stronger fragrance and more vivid coloring of the wax, 1 Tea Spoon of extract to one ounce of wax can be used.

Melting

  • Once the water has been brought to a boil, the 3 glasses are placed in the pot. Occasionally steer all 3 glasses until the wax is completely molten and the extracts have been thoroughly mixed with the wax. Once the wax has been fully melted, the fire is turned down to a very low flame/heat.

Preparing Wick & First Layer

  • Using a piece of tape, the wick is secured to the middle of the bottom of the glass which will house the candle. A candlewick stand would work best however, it isn't necessary. The order in which the wax is poured and set is totally preferential and can be done in any order.

  • I poured the Pine essence infused wax first. Allow the first pour to set well as to not mix with the other wax mixes. This takes around 15 minutes however, this is dependent on the amount of wax being used and the size of the glass/jar housing the candle.

Second Layer Set

  • Once the first layer has cooled sufficiently, the cinnamon essence-infused wax layer is poured onto it. Ensuring the wick is centered in the second layer and allowing sufficient time for it to cool and set

Third Layer Set

  • Once the second layer has set, the cranberry essence-infused wax layer is poured. Once the final layer has been poured, the straw is used to keep the wick centered.

Toppings

  • Before the top of the final layer hardens, the pine leaves are added. Once the candle is lit it will release the scent of fresh pine in the air and also through the was as the candle burns.

Setting the Essence

  • Now the candle is almost done. Trim the wick to about 5mm high and leave the candle to fully cool and solidify overnight or for around 12-24 hours depending on the size of the candle. Once fully set, light the candle and enjoy the smells of Christmas in different waves over several hours, bringing with it good memories, good times, and a lasting, calming fragrance.

Looking forward to seeing the various remixes that perfectly embody your perfect Essence of December.
