Hello World,

My first few steps in to DIY were chess set's. Somehow it is easy, fun and there are many different was to do it.

This fabric chess I made mainly for portability.

A list of things you need

- Felt
- A Band of Velcro (as broad and wide as you wish your pieces)
- Glue
- Scissors
- Neocolor wax crayons

Making the Board

I located a simple chess board vector graphic and formated it to the appropriated size.

Given that I already knew what kind of velcro tape I had available I resized it to fit with that one.

If you buy everything from scratch I am sure you will see more possibilities.

Also I wanted it small and light so I could easily carry it along in my bag.

Then I taped it on to the felt and started working row by row.

Cutting & Colouring

I used black felt so I had to cut and colour the white field of my board.

Finishing the Board

After colouring all rows, I removed the tape and drew a red border around my field by hand.

Then I used some fancy scissors with zig-zag patern to cut the thing out the big felt piece I had.

I used some of the left over velcro to make a strap to keep it closed when folded. Sew the thing on by hand. Which is probably not the best way to go... ;) or maybe it is if you know what you are doing.

Making the Pieces

I had a band of velcro and pre cut 32 pieces, as long as the band was broad to get square chips  (ca. 2cmx2cm).

Again I made it very simple: www.google.com, Royality Free Vector Clipart ... Chess Figures ...

é voilà

resized them to the appropriate size, and printed the white and black side.

So I cut the printed figures out, and glued them on to the velcro chips I prepared.

And that is it...
