Fairy Staff

Fairies deserve more props. Devils get pitchforks and fire, Wizards get staffs and focusing stones, Witches get wands and brooms, and Aliens get ray guns and gadgets. Admittedly Fairies often get wands, but variety man. While thinking about this conundrum I harkened back to my childhood to one of my favorite craft books called "Magic Lanterns" by Mary Maguire. A out of print, but entirely still worthwhile book, I highly recommend picking up a copy. In the book she created something she called a "Fairy Lantern." From that initial version I made up my own version and included a spiral like staff to hold the light up flower. Here is what I consider my Fairy Staff, perfect for any fairy that needs a good sized prop.

Gather Materials!

1. 2 half inch dowels from the craft store about 4 ft long each.

2. Thick wire. I use automotive cable because it's coated, malleable, and it comes in really thick gauges. My wire was 10 gauge. Just don't buy from Del City, ever.

3. Tissue paper in a staff color and petal colors. I recommend green for the staff, and blue from the petals, but you can always personalize. I got this, this, and this. You'll have a lot of tissue paper left over from those, although tissue paper does have a lot of good uses.

4. Hot Glue Gun

5. Modge Podge

6. A small container to water the Modge Podge down in

7. Flat paint brush of decent size.

8. Duck Tape

9. Small battery run LED light. I got these

10. A medium pot, briefly

11. A medium bowl, briefly

I will admit I am fully tempted to hook up a real light socket and just decorate my bedroom with tons of light up flowers. But I definitely love the idea my new fairy staff, and I also had the experience when taking photos of how it attracted little children. I highly recommend that if you're taking some kids trick or treating that you build one of these. You'll end the night with more children than when you started ;-)

I also can't for the life of me figure out how to take good photos of this thing in the dark, my camera is just uncooperative. So for that I apologize, a lot.
