Fingernail Polish Christmas Decorations

Want to make something Christmas-y to hang on your wall or door with stuff right in your house?

I came up with this idea after a stressful week at school, and my sister/roommate loved it. It's paper Christmas ornaments decorated completely with FINGERNAIL POLISH.

Step 1: What You Need

You'll need:

- 2 sheets of white paper
- 3 different colored polishes + a glitter polish
- 3 cupcake tins
- scissors
- a Sharpie marker
- 2 pencils; one with a round, never-used eraser
- a plastic cup (like my Charlie Brown one)

Step 2: Trace the Ornaments and Pour the Polish

Go ahead and trace out nine circles using the bottom of the cup on your paper. Then pour a medium amount of the three polishes (not the glitter one) into the cupcake tins.

Step 3: Start the Letters!

For my ornaments, I spelled out 'MERRY XMAS!". Take your  pencil with the good eraser and dip the eraser into one of the polishes. The first polish I did was red. Then press down gently onto the center of the ornament, and make a dotted letter M.  Repeat this step for any other ornaments you wish to be the same color before the polish dries.

Make sure to wipe off your eraser before switching to another polish.

Step 4: Add the Ornament Details

Wait for the polish to dry, about 5-10 minutes. Then outline the circles with Sharpie. Don't worry about smudging the polish, because you won't. (:

Step 5: Glitter Time!

This part can be a little tiresome because of the fumes from the polish, but in the end it was all worth it!

The glitter polish I'm working with is WetnWild brand, because it is very watery. The thinner the polish is, the smoother it will glide on regular paper. Take your polish and paint the insides of the ornaments, around the letters. It will look dark at first, but the darker it is, the more glitter will appear once it dries.

Let the glitter layer dry for 5-8 minutes.

Step 6: Last Minute Details and Finished!

After the glitter layer is dry, you'll notice that it's not so dark anymore. Add the little tops to the ornaments with your Sharpie, and voila! You're all done! Just cut them out as carefully as you can and hang them up. You could also punch holes in them and string them on a ribbon to make a nice garland.

You could also do this method with crackle polish, too, and I even made a Happy Holidays one.

So with that, Happy Holidays, everyone!
