Are you looking for something to spice up your room? Or a creative thing to give to your friend for their birthday? In this instructable, I will be teaching you how to make a glow-in-the-dark night light in a few very simple steps. This is useful, easy, and a creative way to decorate your room, even if it's just for a while.

Materials

To create your Firefly Night Light you will need:

1. Clear glass jars (with lids)

2. Glow sticks (as many as you'd like, the more you have the brighter it will glow, and it also depends on the size of your jar)

3. Scissors

4. Newspaper or any protective material

5. Gloves (optional)

Cover Your Work Surface With a Protective Covering

This project can get messy, so first you might want to protect your table or the surface you're working on. You could use newspaper, an old towel or even wax paper.

Activate Your Glow Sticks

Next, hold the glow sticks with two hands and then snap them. This then activates the glow stick. Shake it to mix the chemicals inside. After you've done this, it should begin to glow brightly. You can use as many glow sticks as you would like. The more you put, the brighter it will glow! Just remember although some colors look good together like red and white or pink and green, others will turn out muddy like green and red.

Cut Your Glow Stick

Then, hold the glow stick over your jar and then carefully cut the tip of it off. Be careful so that the liquid doesn't spray you. Then turn the glow stick upside down and empty the contents into the jar. You should shake the glow stick to get as much of the liquid out as you can. Then repeat this process for the remaining glow sticks!

Finally

Finally, close the lid of your jar and shake it so the contents coat the walls of your jar. Then take your jar into a dark room and enjoy! Sadly, the jar will begin to fade after two to six hours. To keep it glowing, just add more liquid the next night.

Conclusion

Well this is how to make your very own Firefly Night Light! You can use this to decorate your room or even a party! I suggest you use gloves! Also, have a lot of newspaper to cover the area since it does get very messy, and the liquid might irritate your skin if it does come in contact with it. Hope you enjoy!
