Fitting Vehicle With Vanity Mirrors

You would think that no vehicle without vanity mirrors is still being produced today, but you would be wrong.

My Nissan NP300 one ton truck is a case in point. And although it is meant to be a no frills work vehicle, we working men still like to keep ourselves pretty, don't we.

So in this instructable I'll show you an idea for vanity mirrors I came up with, which is both very easy and cheap.

In the first picture you can see one of the offending sun visors missing its vanity mirror.

I bought two cheap mirrors like the one in the second picture from a dollar store. As you can see, they were fitted with a kind of pull out stand to make them stay upright if necessary. This I cut off, as can be seen in the third photo.

For fixing the mirrors, I first tried double side tape, but half an hour in the sun made them drop to the floor due to the glue getting hot and losing its grip.

Then I thought of using some of the strong plastic tape with which parcels are secured for postage (last photo). A nice thing about doing it this way, is that the visors are not damaged in any way.

First I measured the correct length of plastic tape necessary to fit around the sun visor, and cut it to length.

Then I threaded the tape through the plastic mesh on the back of the mirrors, and joined the two ends behind the mirrors. For that I simply used an ordinary paper stapler.

And fitting the mirrors is simply done by sliding them onto the loose ends of the sun visors.

The bonus is that the mirrors can be adjusted up or down or to the left or right (second picture). I don't think that's a feature even on BMW's and Mercs.
