Fix Broken Keyboard Leg With Office Supplies
EVER DEAL WITH A BROKEN KEYBOARD LEG?
With just ordinary Office Supplies
YOU CAN FIX THAT KEYBOARD PROP LEG THINGY!!!
Parts List
-
Complementary Glue Stick - you know the one you haven't the foggiest why you got it and what you'll you'll use it for?
1 Chop Stick - There's always someone who needs the full ambiance of chow-fun, fun eating!
Sharp Scissors - You know the one for possible postal worker protection?
Writing tool to measure That's a tough one, you may have to buy this one yourself. I mean it's rare we should ever use one! But gladly they gave us that Glue Stick!
Desk Drawer - Just clear out a corner. You'll need the 90 degrees to keep the sticks in place.
Thumb Tack (Plastic type)
BIC Pen Cap This is to use glue in heaps
Emery Board or Sidewalk - Getting your new leg level is not easy, you'll have to sand it down to make it level. I'm sure there's a kind female coworker who has them emery boards for nails, or one of them long nailed guitar playing guys. If not the sidewalk outside makes a mighty fine sanding instrument
Black Sharpie After all, paint is not one of them common office supplies. But permanent markers sure makes a good alternative.
Measuring
Measure the height of the good leg of the keyboard.
Use your writing tool to place a mark where to cut.
That first piece will be your template for other cuts
Cutting
Cut the first one off the stick. This is tricky, the scissors won't cut all the way through. (Keep that in mind when defending yourself from postal workers)
Use the one you cut to measure the next to keep them as identical cuts as possible.
You'll need 4 of them
Remember Safety Last when you can get a settlement.
Gluing
Use the Glue Stick to glue one side of the chopstick.
Leveling
So you wanted to know how the desk worked into this project? Gives a nice 90 degree angle.
Before the glue dries it will keep moving the sticks around. Well to get them even as possible, you'll have to use the corner of your desk drawer to put them together.
Let dry for about an hour
Strengthening
Use another piece of the chopstick to now put some glue into the grooves of the new Leg Propping Apparatus.
Get it all in there like caulking your bathroom tub!
Grouting
Use one of the million tacks you have to really get into the grooves.
Leg Is Complete!
NICE AND STURDY
Attaching the Leg
It's a bright picture, the pen cap works like a shovel, and trowel. Pack the area where the device will go.
Don't be shy with the glue, you'll need to wedge the device all up in that piece!
Cementing!
OK it's more glue, but cement sounds cooler.
As you see here, gluing is the most important part!
Once this baby dries it's going to take a pounding!
Let this dry for over an hour since the glue is thick and needs more time.
I guess it's time for lunch?
Analysis
Now that you're back from lunch... Time to get back to work!
As you see my cutting technique needs work.
Nothing my neighbor's nail file can't fix!
Next we'll get to painting and sanding
Painting
It's time to get this baby to blend! I'll have to do the sanding later cuz there aren't many emery boards around. Should've used the Sidewalk first! Well Hinds sight is mad dog 20/20.
Those sharpie tools are just the thing! Just coat this baby a few times. Drying time is fast!
Sure you can maybe use some Balsamic Vinegar from the cafeteria, but soaking time is to long.
The other option is soak it in dark roast coffee. Maybe a neighbor has a venti cup. By the time they're done it should be ready. The glue will likely melt, but it should be eatable.
SANDING!
Well Lookey Here!
Took a few hundred drawers to search through.
I'll have to paint again!
Before you steal it watch how a Woman uses it!
One Directional swipes!
COMPLETE!
Well there you have it. You fixed it.
This baby is still holding up to this day as you see in my desk picture!
And as you noticed I was never rudely interrupted with work!
Granted you could have just asked IT for a new one, but what's the fun in doing that?
