Fix Oculus Headset Stuttering on SteamVR

Hello all! It's been a while since I last uploaded a tutorial here, been busy graduating college!

SteamVR is an amazing software hub, Steam offers users a plethora of VR games and content all in one place that can be easily accessed from any VR headset.

There's just one little issue: Both SteamVR and Oculus VR have their own implementation of a technology called Spacewarp. Spacewarp essentially warps the image going to the headset to make a fake image in case the graphics card can't fully render a frame. It takes into account the velocity the headset is moving and slightly stretches the last frame as a backup. Normally, if Oculus is working by itself, this feature is fine, however if used in conjunction with SteamVR's implementation of it, it causes the VR headset to stutter every few seconds, making for an uncomfortable, often unplayable experience. However, this can be easily fixed in most cases via a little known program called the Oculus Debug Tool! :D

Step 1: Finding the Oculus Debug Tool

If your Oculus Home software is installed on your C: drive, the normal drive name for Windows, open your

windows Explorer and go to this spot on your hard drive -

C:\Program Files\Oculus\Support\oculus-diagnostics

Once you get there, open the OculusDebugTool.exe program!

Step 2: Turn Off Asynchronous Spacewarp

Once you get the program open, click on the drop down next to the "Asynchronous Spacewarp" option and set it to disabled! You might also reduce the Pixels Per Display Pixel Override if you want to, but it's not required.

Then restart SteamVR and it should be butter smooth! Enjoy!
