Floppy Disk Case for MicroSD Cards
I just thought that it would be fun to store microSD cards inside a floppy disk. Here's how I did it.
Supplies
- Floppy disk
- Crafting knife
- A screwdriver or keys for prying the floppy disk open
- 3D printer and the attached STL-file
- Acrylic glue
- Champagne cork and two nails

Preparations
3D print the attached disk for microSD cards and trim it.
Lift the slider in the direction of the red arrow to remove it. Be careful to catch the little spring that might eject from the disk and watch how it is attached.
Insert a screwdriver (or something else) inside the disk from the sides and pry the floppy disk open. It is glued shut from the circled spots. Save the little plastic write protector.
Take the white mat out of the disk and make the insides flat with a crafting knife.
Cut the opening in the floppy disk a little larger. At least as large as the sliders opening.
Assembly
Glue the 3D printed disk to the original magnetic disk with acrylic glue like in the picture.
Re-assemble the floppy disk: put the write protector and 3D printed disk inside the floppy disk and glue it from the circled spots. Put the slider back and then the spring to where it was.
Final Touches
It's finished! Now you can insert your microSD cards. It is possible to spin the disk with your fingers but it is easier with a champagne cork that has two nails embedded. The nails are inserted to the holes in the middle of the disk and then the cork is rotated.
