Flying Boombox

output - frame at 0m5s.jpg

The idea was to create a flying boombox. I came across a spherical boombox, and it reminded me of the simplicity that comes in the tiny little things, if I was going to make a flying boombox it had to be spherical.

Supplies

  1. To get the model I required I turned to meshy.ai; a really nice site when it comes to text to 3d work. In the website there's also a section for stylizing.
  2. I used web-ar for AR immersion of the 3d model.

Meshy.ai is a straighforward site. Make an account, click on worskspace and head on to the text to 3d section. On the far right you get, text to 3d and image to 3d. For this model I didn't work with a complicated prompt: A spherical boombox with butterfly wings.

  1. A free account consumes tokens daily
  2. You get 4 3d models with each prompt

Once you find the 3d model, you like or think suits your project, you're good to go. Find attached the video for the model I decided to go with.

With Meshy you get two options: Sculpture or Physically based rendering (PBR).

  1. In PBR, the boombox looks more metalic than the concept idea I'm going for, details in the original model have been smoothed out.
  2. In Sculpture style, the front speaker is visible, and the slot for the VCR is also visible.

AR

The idea is to have the boombox hovering around, so I went over to web.webar-studio.com. I've made some AR models before and this website provides a mobile accessible interface especially when working with the result.

After signing up the process is as follows:

My projects> add project> SLAM> SLAM(again)> Browser

Upload your 3d model and you're good to go.
