I created this lightweight, 3D Flying Saucer for our Martian Invasion Halloween party. It's constructed of basics found at dollar stores; the primary structure is built from a hula hoop, toothpicks and wire, an oversized "record" party decoration, a plastic salad bowl and some planter pot saucers.

It's all held together with plastic wrap that's been reinforced with packing tape (which accepts spray paint better than cellophane alone). Exterior details were enhanced with disposable emery boards, shower ring curtains, and dimensional craft paint, covered by metallic spray paint.

Before sealing it up, I included a battery-operated light-changing LED panel --  a repurposed Halloween wall decor panel that had lights embedded in a thin foam disk. Because the painted packing tape-cellophane retains some of its translucency, it was possible to see the lights changing from inside the craft. I also hot-glued some individual LEDs to key exterior parts of the space craft.  We hung it off-kilter to suggest it was about to crash into our window...

Enjoy!
