To make this painting, you will need the following supplies:

- A pair of scissors

- Felt tip pens (mainly pink, purple and blue)

- Old newspaper

- A plastic bag (preferably clear)

- A cup of water

- A pencil

- A black fine liner (I used a Sharpie)

- A paintbrush

- A piece of watercolour paper or card paper (it won't work with printer paper or thin paper)

Cut Some Plastic

First of all lay out the newspaper to protect your workspace as shown in the last photo, and then you will need to draw a small square (as seen in the photo) on your plastic bag with your fine liner. Then, take your scissors and cut the square out, and keep the square for the next step.

How to Paint

IMG_0351.jpg

First you need to to take your pink, purple and blue felt tip pens and the plastic square from the last step. Now draw random shapes onto your piece of plastic with the pens, like shown in the photo, you can cover as much of the plastic with pen as you want, but covering less of it will be easier.

Preparing the Paper

Take your piece of paper. Dip the paintbrush into the water, and wet a small part of the paper. Keep it on your newspaper for the next step.

Starting the Painting

IMG_0381.jpg

Take the plastic square with the pen on it, and flip it over, so that the side with the ink on it is facing down towards your paper. Press the plastic down on the patch of paper that has water on it, still making sure that the side of the plastic with ink is being pressed down. If you pressed it down on the spot where the paper is wet, you should see the ink start to merge together and expand on the paper.

Take the Plastic Off

After you have finished step 5, then take the plastic off your paper and it should come off with almost all of the felt tip ink off, like you can see it the video.

Repeat!

Repeat steps 2, 3, 4 and 5 until you have covered at least a quarter of your paper is filled up with colour. Then, go on to the next step.

Blending

Once you take of the plastic, you may see that your colours are not completely blended together, so take your paintbrush, and gently try to blend the ink on the paper, to give the effect even more that you made this with watercolour paints.

Fill Your Paper

IMG_0422.jpg

Fill up your whole paper with the ink from your felt tips, just following the process that you just did. (steps 2,3,4,5 and 7) Once your paper is filled, it should look something like in the photo. Leave your paper to dry completely before going onto the next step.

Drawing the Rocket

IMG_0424.jpg

In the next steps you can draw anything you want, but if you want yours to look like mine follow these instructions. First, to draw the rocket, using your pencil, draw a wide half semi-circle. Next draw a small strip at the end of the semi circle, and add 3 small circles to the strip. You can see this in the photo.

Window

IMG_0425.jpg

Draw a circle in the middle of your half semi-circle and then a smaller one inside it. This is the window of the rocket.

Fire

IMG_0426.jpg

Now draw a big fire shape at the bottom of your rocket, (look at the photo), then continue to draw smaller and smaller fire shapes inside of it.

Wings

IMG_0427.jpg

Draw two, triangular shapes on the side of your rocket for the wings.

Planets

IMG_0429.jpg

To draw a planet, draw a circle and a ring around it. You can draw as many planets as you want.

Moon and Stars

IMG_0430.jpg

Now draw a crescent shape for a moon, and scatter some stars everywhere.

Outline

IMG_0435.jpg

Using your fine liner, outline everything that you have just drawn. If you like you can add your own details, but outlining it will look just as great as well.

Finish!

You should now have a piece that looks something like this!
