Getting Started With Amara

Amara is a free subtitling editor that makes it simple for you to add subtitles to videos for everything from classroom use to personal use. These instructions will help you establish an Amara account so you can start adding quick and easy subtitles to your videos. To use Amara, all you need is a computer with internet access.

Go to Amara.org

Search Amara.org in your web browser and select "Sign up" in the top right-hand corner of the page.

Create Your Account

Fill in your information to create your free Amara account.

Make Sure Your Video Is in a Compatible Format

Compatible formats include Vimeo, YouTube, mp4, WebM, flv, ogg, and mp3.

Select "Subtitle Video"

After you've logged in to your new Amara account, select "Subtitle Video" in the tool bar near the top of the page.

Copy & Paste Your Video URL

Paste your chosen video URL into the toolbar and click "Begin."

Click "Add a New Language!"

Click "Add a new language!" on the left-hand side of the screen. You will be asked to select what language your video is in and what language you would like to subtitle the video into.

You're Ready to Begin Captioning!
