Making a Ghost/Snowman out of logs

Today I will show you how I made these cute little Ghost and Snowmen out of old logs.

I cut an old limb off my trees, that was hanging over my Garage. I don't like anything go to waste, so I thought what could I make with it. Finally after letting it set out beside the garage a few months, then it came to me, make some logs for Halloween and Christmas decorations.

This is what I came up with, a real simple project. I hope you will enjoy it.

What's Needed

3 logs ( I used 3 different sizes)

Chainsaw or Sawzall

Hammer

Chisel

Sander and 120 grit sandpaper

White paint ( I used outdoor house paint)

paint brush

Craft paint ( Black and Orange Pumpkin)

Small paint brush

Pencil

I used a chainsaw to cut the limb off the tree, then I used a Sawzall to trim them down to size. If you wanted to, you could use the chainsaw instead. I cut three logs, one about 24" long and another a few inches shorter, then a smaller one for the child.

Note my tree limb had been setting for a few months, If you cut a fresh limb or tree, you will need it to dry out before using it.

Debark

Now is time to debark the logs, I used a hammer and chisel.

Note after I debarked the logs, I let them set outside a couple of days to dry out more, the bark holds in moisture.

Sanding

I then used a Orbital sander with 120 grit sandpaper, to clean up the rest of the bark.

Note that this doesn't have to be a perfect, you just want to sand good enough that the paint will stick to it.

Paint Log

Now is time to paint the logs, I used some left over outdoor house paint. I painted the bottom first, then painted the rest. Let the paint dry overnight, before continuing.

Draw and Paint Faces

Now use your imagination for the faces, I looked at some Google images, and this is what I came up with.

First use a pencil to draw the faces onto the logs, then paint with Craft paint. I used Black and Pumpkin Orange.

Enjoy

Once your logs are finished, set back and enjoy. I added some hats to the snowmen.

Now you have two decorations, one for Halloween and then one for Christmas.

I hope you have enjoyed this Instructable, I think they came out great.
