GitHub Contribution Graph Desk Ornament

If you're like me and you always have a ton of side projects going on, you probably use GitHub a lot.

One random thing I love about GitHub are the tiny extra details they throw in- in particular, the contribution history graphic.

I look at this every time I log into my GitHub account online, and I even have it as an iOS widget on my home screen.

Recently, GitHub launched a new site to provide 3D models and a VR experience of your contribution history chart...

Go to the GitHub website, click your profile picture in the top right corner, then click "Your profile".

You should now see your own profile, as well as your recent contribution history. You can view all your contributions an the calendar-like graph and find the year which you are most proud of.

From your GitHub profile page, click your profile picture in the top right corner again, then click "Settings"

You should now see the settings for your public profile. Scroll down to the "Profile settings" section and check the box that says "Include private contributions on my profile", then click "Update preferences".

Now you can go back to your profile page and your contribution graph should include your contributions from private repositories and should have a bit more detail and colour!

Go to the GitHub Skyline site. In the big text field, type in your GitHub username. You can select any year's contribution graph since 2008 (the year GitHub was founded), and then click "Create a Skyline".

A new page will load and your 3D contribution skyline is ready!

Tip: If your favourite year of contributions is the current year and the website won't let you select that year, pick any other year, click the "Create a Skyline" button, then replace the chosen year in the URL with your preferred year.

Now you can click the download button in the bottom left corner to download a .stl (3D printable model) file.

Go to the PCBWay website and click on 3D Printing.

Upload your 3D model, select the quantity, material, colour, and finish, then submit your request for a price quote.
