Glam Halloween Gourds
Why not add a little sparkle to this year's Halloween display? We're showing you how in this episode of Preval's Maker Minute.
What You'll Need
- Black chalkboard paint
- White chalkboard paint, or flat latex primer
- Glitter
- An assortment of plastic gourds
- Flat-back rhinestones (Hobby Lobby)
- Superglue
- 2 Preval Sprayers (available at Lowe's or Home Depot)
- Elmer’s glue
- Sponge brush
- Black paint pen
Prepare the Preval Sprayer
Add 1.5 oz. of black water-based chalk paint to the Preval Sprayer jar.
Then, add 1.5 oz. of water.
Cap, shake and attach the spray can.
Alternate Colors
Use a sponge brush to paint one even layer across one or more gourds, and allow them to dry before applying another coat.
Meanwhile, prep your other Preval Sprayer with the white chalk paint -- or latex paint. If using latex paint, use a paint strainer to pour 3 oz. of paint into the jar. Then, add 2 oz. of water.
Again, spray one layer at a time, allowing drying time in between.
When the pumpkins dry, it’s time to decorate.
Add the Glitter and More
Paint a layer of Elmer’s glue onto the bottom half of one or more pumpkins and sprinkle glitter onto them. Then superglue rhinestones to another gourd, and experiment to make it your own. Finally, use your black paint pen to decorate a white pumpkin or two.
These glam gourds are super fun to make. Store them in a safe place, and they’ll look just as great next year.
