Glow in the Dark Bicycle "Tron Style" - DIY Tutorial
In this tutorial we are going to learn how simple it is to transform your regular bike to an awesome and safer bike! To great things in once...!
Things required:
- Glow in the dark Paint
- Paper Towel
- Brush
- 8x UV LED (Very important that it is UV!!)
- 4x 330Ohm Resistor
- 9v battery
- 9v battery connector
- Electrical tape
- Soldering iron
- Tin
- Soldering board
- Wire
Watch This First!
This is a instructional video I made for this project. Please watch it first and afterwards read the instructions :)
Clean and Paint
The glow in the dark paint is supposed to be painted on the inside of the wheel. So make sure you do not paint the area where the breaks are used, but the inside. Start of by using your paper towel to clean this of your wheels.
Then add your glow in the dark paint and use the brush to spread the paint. Paint rather thin and at least two times. But let the paint dry between.
Some paints may need a curing step. Just like this paint needs ironing to fully cure after 24h. So make sure you check the bottle! :)
Solder It Together
You can find the schematics of one light panel in the pictures. The rest of the panels can ether be made separate or soldered in parallel to the 9v battery.
Make sure you have enough soldering board to be used as a area of attachment to the bicycle.
Attache It to the Bike
Attache the panels to the bike. Make sure the two UV led;s are placed over the area with glow in the dark paint.
Your now done and can go out riding your bike Tron style!
Make sure you understand that this do not replace the front and rear lights. This project together with the basic lights will increase the safety of your ride, and make it easier for others in the traffic to see you. :)
Do also make sure you do not break any laws by using this... It do vary from country to country.
The end result can be seen in the video shown in step 2! :)
