Groovy Flower
Crochet this groovy flower. It's fun, easy and fast!
I played a hippy in a show, and couldn't find an appropriate outfit. So, I crocheted a bunch of groovy flowers and sewed them onto a pair of jeans. They looked great onstage. when the show ended, I tossed the jeans into the washer and dryer, and they came out undamaged. I am still washing and wearing the jeans after a year. I made the flowers for the costume out of cotton yarn which held up well. I would recommend washing and drying the flowers once before sewing onto jeans as cotton tends to shrink when washed.
For this instructable, I used inexpensive worsted yarn in bright colors and a G crochet hook. You will need to know how to make a magic ring (MR), slip stitch (SLST), skip (SK), chain (CH), half-double crochet (HDC) and triple crochet (TC).
Flower Center
This is the groovy part- literally. You will be making a spiral by working back loops only (BLO) throughout.
With the color you have chosen for the center, make a MR and work 6 HDC. Do not join. Continue in a spiral.
Flower Center Round 2
Make 2 HDC in each stitch for a total of 12 HDC.
Flower Center Round 3
Work (2 HDC, 1 HDC) x6 around for a total of 18 HDC.
Set Up for Petals
Change to color you have chosen for the petals. You will make 6 loops on which to crochet petals.
Over three stitches, work: SLST, CH 3, SK 1, SLST. One chain made
Repeat 5 more times for a total of 6 chain-3 loops.
Make 6 Petals
You will make one petal in each ch-3 loop for a total of 6 petals.
Into each chain-3 loop: SLST, CH 2, 4 TC, CH 2, SLST.
One petal is finished.. Continue around for a total of 6 petals, and you are done.
Groovy! Flower Power! Right on, Man! Peace out!
