HOME-MADE MEDICAL FACE SHIELD
Due to the current situation caused by the coronavirus pandemic, the world is facing a shortage of medical supplies. Healthcare workers are having to risk their lives with minimum equipment. Much PPE is needed in order to face this global crisis. A solution to help medical staff is to redesign the current personal protective equipment so that it can be produced at home. It will not be as effective as medically approved PPE, but every little bit of help may save lives.
Collect the Materials Needed
Only the following materials are needed:
- Vanity mirror
- A4 Plastic envelope
- Elastic bands
- Double-sided adhesive tape
The following tools are also needed:
- Scissors
- Screwdriver
Separate the Frame of the Vanity Mirror
The round frame of the vanity mirror will be separated from the rest of the product. It will be used as the frame of the face shield.
Prepare the Plastic Envelope
Next, the plastic envelope will be cut and shaped to be used as the visor.
Attach the Elastic Bands to the Frame
The elastic bands need to be tied to the frame. The existing holes in the frame can be useful for this step.
Tape the Visor to the Frame
The plastic envelope or visor is now taped to the frame. The adhesive tape is first placed on the frame, making sure that it covers all of it. Then, the visor is adhered to the frame.
Adjust the Elastic Bands
An important aspect of a face shield is that it can be correctly adjusted by the user. In order to achieve this objective, each elastic band is tied to the other one. This will allow the user to adjust the face shield by moving the knots closer or further away from each other.
