Hey. In this instructable I'll show you how to make an hourglass using light bulbs and beach sand.

To save you some time I've made step by step video -

For this you'll need:

X2 standard light bulbs
beach sand or salt
hot glue
carton
play dough

and tools. :)

HOLLOW LIGHT BULBS

First you got to take hacksaw and cut bulbs metallic bit in half. then using pliers brake of glass stick inside (watch video) after take a screwdriver and stick it inside of the light bulb. move it side to side till the inner bits brake lose. next shake all the bits out of the light bulb.

FILL IT WITH SAND

Next you got to fill one light bulb with sand (about three quarters). Then cut out a circle out of cardboard to fit onto a neck of the bulb. bow you can glue this circle onto a bulb like shown using hot glue.

Pierce a hole in cardboard lid you glued to your light bulb, using a screw or anything sharp. timer will depend on holes size. then using hot glue glue second light bulb on top of the other and secure it with tape. after you can mask tape with some ribbon or string.

THE BASE

For the base I used some play dough. take a good amount of play dough and roll a ball. smash it so it looks like a burger and press your hourglass into it. Your hourglass is now ready, and it is a great decoration for your room or office.
