Halloween Flock of Bats!

DSC08347.JPG

A quick and easy, DIY craft to try out for Hallowe'en!

My brother and I have made more of these every year for about the past three years, and it certainly looks VERY cool!

Experiment around with the style of the wings, like more rounded or jagged, to find what suits your situation best.

Bonus points if you find enough tiny googly eyes for them all!

Supplies

  • Black Card or Paper (I used A4 size, and made about 5 or 6 bats per sheet)
  • White crayon (or just a pencil, but white shows best)
  • Scissors
  • Tape or Blue Tack
  • Optional - Mini Googly Eyes for bonus points!

Fold Card/Paper

Fold the card in half, long ways and corner to corner. Run your finger along the folded edge to make sure that it's super smooth.

Trace Bats

Trace half of the bat onto one side of the card. This way when you cut it out, it will be perfectly symmetrical. If you struggle to freehand the outline, look up "bat silhouettes" for some inspiration and ideas. Experiment with more jagged wings, or different sized bats.

One piece of card should do five or six bats.

Cut Out

Carefully cut out the bats, keeping the paper folded over all the while. A WARNING: smaller details such as the ears may be tricky to cut out if your scissors aren't very sharp. It might take a little practice to get them how you want as well.

Repeat Steps 1 and 2

Repeat as many times as necessary for however many bats you want.

Stick to a Wall and Assemble the Bat Flock!

Now add a small ball of Blue Tack or a small amount of tape and stick the flock to your wall!

If you want to make them REALLY fly, tape a piece of fishing line to the black and hang them from the ceiling!

And remember, the more you make, THE BIGGER YOUR BAT ARMY WILL BE!
