Halloween Lantern Lights Decor

We found these cute little lanterns, created little Halloween worlds, add lights, hung them up outside and placed them on our table!

Creativity works best here. You can put anything in these little lanterns that you want. Make a whole little world!

Walmart:

String Orange lights

battery operated tea lights - you can get these just about anywhere. I think they even put them out with the pumpkin carving stuff around Halloween.

Paint - we used generic outdoor acrylic paint

paint brushes - and general painting supplies

hot glue/glue gun

scissors

thin/pointed markers

fishing line (optional)

tiny toys

small screw driver

Dollar store:

fake plants/flowers

moss

plant foam (that green stuff they use to fill pots before adding plants on top)

Michaels:

little lanterns - ours were about 5" - THIS IS IMPORTANT - YOU NEED THE LANTERNS WITH TINY HOLES IN THE TOP! - these must fit your string light bulbs inside.

We started off by dry brushing the outsides of these lanterns. Fill a brush with paint, then remove as much of the paint as we could, leaving only just a little bit left on the brush. Lightly brush around the edges and anywhere weather would have messed up the lantern. If it starts to become to much you can wipe the extra away with a clean brush or paper towel. We used silver, gold, red, and green paints for this, you can use whatever you like.

Once dry we started filling inside the lanterns. Everything got placed in with hot glue. We used the plant foam to fill the bottom and help make things standout more. We covered that with moss. If you cut the plant foam in a small u shape and paint it gray it makes a little tombstone. Write RIP or something on it with a thin white marker. We also used the markers to put faces on the tiny pumpkins and add more detail to the skulls. Fill any extra spaces with moss and cut off parts from the fake flowers. Have fun and add anything you can to make these little worlds. We even took a tiny Mario from the board game and added him in.

Feeling extra fancy we even placed some moss and flowers to the outsides of the lanterns. Just remember they still have to be able to hold lights and be tied up to hang.

Some lanterns got saved to sit on the table inside. For those lanterns we did not add the foam at the bottom and instead put in the tea light - do not glue it in. They have a tiny switch at the bottom you will need to get to. Fill everything in around the light making sure you can still access it.

When all done and dry, slip the string light blubs into one or two of the holes at the tops of the lanterns. If the hole is just a tad small use a screwdriver to wiggle the hole a little bigger. Careful not to hurt yourself or mess up the art inside!

If needed, you can use the fishing line to attach the lanterns to the string lights or even use that to hang them from your tree, porch, etc.

The string lights should light up your little worlds. Enjoy, have fun, and get creative!
