This project shows a possible application of NiTinol wire (SMA) in a 3D printed prosthetic hand. The project is based on the Flexi-hand project that can be found on thingiverse http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:242639.

This project was doen for the TfCD course in the Integrated Product Design Master at the TU Delft.

Print and assemble the flexi hand as instructed on the Thingiverse page.

NinjaFlex can be used to directly print the flexible hinges, another option is to print the moulds and cast the hinges from silicone or Oogoo (https://www.instructables.com/id/How-To-Make-Your-Own-Sugru-Substitute/)

Shaping the NiTinol Wire

Shape the NiTinol into a spring like shape following these instructions:

1. Strip a electrical connector (Kroonsteen) from its plastic housing.

2. Connect one end of the Nitinol to the nylon string using a connector.

3. make a loop on the other side of the NiTinol wire with a connector and connect to an eye bolt which is screwed in a small wooden block to create an anchor.

4. Tape the Hand and the anchor to a flat surface.

5. Apply heat to the NiTinol Wire.

The Result.
